History

Eta Kappa Tau Engineering and Technology Fraternity, Incorporated Alpha Chapter, was founded at Alabama A & M university by junior Electrical Engineering major, Shanae' N. Sharp.  With the assistance of the Executive Board or Seven Wonders, she was able to establish this organization in March 2000 under the advisement of Dr. T. Trent Montgomery, the Electrical Engineering Department Chairman (present Dean).  The Executive  Board members were Shanae' N. Sharp, President and Founder; Crystal Boone, Vice President; Eric Dees, Treasurer; Tiviley King, Secretary; Markesha Farmer, Assistant Secretary; Janaia Blackmon, Chaplain; and Rodney Farmer, Parliamentarian.  

The Eta Kappa Tau Engineering and Technology Fraternity Incorporated was created to fulfill certain obligations as the first of its kind on the campus of AAMU.  First, it was to promote the necessary of scholastic achievement by tutoring, hosting and attending workshops, and sharing the importance of engineering and technology has had on the world today.  Second, it will provide the camaraderie and teamwork necessary to succeed as a engineering or technology student.  Eta Kappa Tau members will learn the importance of working together to achieve a common goal, the unification of the School of Engineering and Technology.  Finally, Eta Kappa Tau will establish a reputation at AAMU that will work towards the improvement of social relationships between its members and others.  The completion of the aforementioned obligations will provide a solid foundation of educational and social awareness that its members will find beneficial after their entrance into the workforce.

"To establish a link between engineering and technology majors and others that will promote the necessity of technology and scholastic achievement, provide general knowledge and professional skills, and serve to develop social awareness and a working relationship between the students, professors, and public"
